The 1974 World Cup was the 10th World Cup to be held in West Germany (and West Berlin) between the 13th june to july 7 . This is the first time that the current trophy is the FIFA World Cup Trophy, created by an Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga. The previous title, the Jules Rimet Trophy, was won by Brazil for the third time in 1970 and handed over to Brazil on a permanent basis.

Organized cities and stadiums

West Germany was selected as the host country by FIFA in London, England on July 6, 1966. West Germany agrees to agreement with Spain. Spain would support West Germany for the 1974 tournament, and in exchange for West Germany allowed Spain to bid for 1982 without objection.

Nine stadiums in nine cities are set to host the World Cup in Germany: West Berlin, Olympiastadion, Munich, Bavaria Olympiastadion Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg Neckarstadion Stadium, Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia Parkstadion Stadium, Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia Rheinstadion Stadium. Frankfurt, Hesse Waldstadion Stadium Hamburg Volksparkstadion Stadium Hanover, Lower Saxony, Niedersachsenstadion, and Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Westfalenstadion.

Participated countries

The 16 participating countries are: Georgia, Australia, Haiti, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Bulgaria, East Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Scotland.Sweden West Germany (host) Yugoslavia.

Final Match

The final took place on July 7, 1974 at the Olympiastadion in Munich. One minute into the game, Cruyff was knocked out by Uli Hoeneß in the penalty area the Netherlands took the lead with a Johan Neeskens penalty. West Germany tried to fight back and in the 26th minute they were awarded a penalty 11 meters after Bernd Hölzenbein fell in the Netherlands.

Paul Breitner decided to kick and score well. The two penalties were the first in a World Cup final. In the 43rd minute, Gerd Müller scored to give Germany the lead, it became the winning goal and the last goal of Müller's career as he retired from the national team.
